The design of the Chanel Classic 11.12 draws inspiration from the 2.55 shoulder bag introduced by Gabrielle Chanel in 1955. In 1983, Karl Lagerfeld reinterpreted this iconic piece while retaining its rectangular flap, diamond-quilted pattern, and shoulder strap structure. He replaced the 2.55’s iconic rectangular “Mademoiselle” clasp with an interlocking double-C twist lock and intricately wove the leather between the metal chains, creating the now-iconic flap design. The name “11.12” derives from its classic model number, A01112. Crafted from grained calfskin, this handbag features a natural grain that lends the surface a refined yet durable texture. After cutting, the leather is precisely aligned with the lining and quilted with uniform stitching to form a continuous diamond-quilted pattern, ensuring that the texture on the flap, front panel, back panel, and sides flows seamlessly and forms a harmonious whole.
